elanamatic: Next time
Me: "Hi, I'm elanamatic. I work with so and so on such and such. I just thought I'd introduce myself, say hi, see how things are going.. I've worked in this industry awhile, and heard a lot about you, I think I've even heard you speak at the blah blah conference."
New guy: "Oh right. You are such and such. You are the dude's wife, right?"
Me:" Uh yeah. I was just trying not to blurt that out within the first five minutes of meeting you but now that it's on the table.. yes. I am his wife. And I also know so and so and have worked with whatshername back at MegaCorp."
Sigh.
Next time I am responding, "No, actually. He's my husband."
