elanamatic: Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah is all the buzz on the indie scene. I was listening to some tracks on their site earlier, and I say Yeah. I dig 'em. There is a Toronto show coming up LAbour Day weekend. I might have to coerce Aussie co-worker Joey into attending with me. Anyone else interested?
So following up on yesterday, Cirque de Soleil does not smell like elephants at all. Apparently they never use any animals in their performances, ever. I guess my brain was fuddled with memories of going to see other cirques in Montreal as a kid. Silly kid, elephants are for Barnum and Bailey.
Regardless, the show was fantastic! Although I will admit to enjoying the first half more than the second, Cirque de Soleil always captures my imagination. They make it look so damn easy. It's ridiculous. I know from yoga how hard it is to even stand on one foot for an extended period, these folks make balance look like an afterthought. Amazing acrobatics and dancing aside, I also really love the music and the costumes. Corteo seems to have more of a storyline than past shows, but it was just as magical as ever. Ladies in lingerie swing from chandeliers. Balloons carry away characters. Full of whimsy and light even though it is telling the story of a funeral procession.
