Post-Modern Drunk: Tuesday is the New Friday Random Ten (1/6/06)

1. "Tusk" by Fleetwood Mac, from Tusk
   5/10 - Man, this brings me back to the old days, cruising around Fargo, with the windows rolled up and the heat turned up as high as it would go, listening to Classic Rock, never suspecting there'd be a day when I might get out of that hellhole and learn what real music is.
   
2. "Let's Talk About Spaceships" by Say Hi to Your Mom, from Numbers and Mumbles
   8/10 - Upbeat song about a guy insisting they not talk about what's going wrong with their relationship, which, oddly enough, turns out pretty good.
   
3. "Riders on the Storm" by Nightmares on Wax
   5/10 - Boring and repetitive. Maybe if I was on ecstasy this would be more effective.
   
4. "Loving Cup" by The Rolling Stones, from Exile on Main Street
   5/10 - I'm told "Exile on Main Street" is the best Rolling Stones album out there. Eh. If I have to listen to something with "rolling stone" in it, I'll settle for "Like a Rolling Stone" anytime.
   
5. "Electioneering" by Radiohead, from OK Computer
   7/10 - This song feels only slightly out of place on OK Computer--doesn't have quite the apocalyptic feel that the other songs on the album have, like it comes from The Bends instead. But that's okay. The Bends is good too.
   
6. "I Bleed" by Pixies, from Doolittle
   6/10 - Did you know that the name of the band is actually "Pixies" rather than "The Pixies"? Did you know that you're allowed to punch anyone in the face who points that out to you and expects you to listen to them?
   
7. "Summertime" by Janis Joplin, from Janis Joplin's Greatest Hits
   6/10 - Janis Joplin died at the age of 27. I've got one year left to do something at least as good as this (and this is lesser Janis Joplin, at that), otherwise it's time to descend into suburban life and look forward to fishing trips and sitcoms rather than struggling for greatness.
   
8. "Suspended From Class" by Camera Obscura, from Underachievers Please Try Harder
   6/10 - Kinda Belle and Sebastian lite (and Belle and Sebastian can be pretty light to begin with), but nice as far as that goes. Plus, they get extra points for having a great album title.
   
9. "Summer in Siam" by The Pogues, from Very Best of the Pogues
   6/10 - Shane McGowan tries to get all quiet and shit, and it doesn't really work out as well as it should.
   
10. "After Hours" by Rilo Kiley, from The Execution of All Things
    6/10 - A passable cover of the Velvet Underground song--it's hard to ruin a Velvet Underground song.
    

6/10 - Which should be unsurprising, considering the number of sixes I doled out. It's been that type of week (my Friday workday has kinda extended until today--Tuesday morning).
