sunshine jen: Seven Things to Do As You Grow Older
Recently, a bunch of people in my life who are over the age of sixty celebrated birthdays. Because of my goals in life is to live a very long time(I’m going for over a hundred, who’s with me?), I observed how the older kept themselves going.
I wasn’t looking for philosophy or religion or even happiness. I was looking for definite tangible things that I could develop a knack for now and continue doing the rest of my life. I came up with seven things that I could do and grow old well while doing them:
Drink wine.
Beer might come and go, but I noticed all the older people drink wine, and they seem to enjoy drinking wine. One could argue the health benefits of wine, but there’s no denying, it’s mighty tasty stuff.
Eat out.
When I talk about eating out, I am not talking about going to a slap-dash kind of restaurant where you get enough food on your plate to feed a hockey team. I’m talking about going out and enjoying a nice meal in which you can actually taste your food.
Work out.
The olders seem to stay active. I don’t see any reason not to.
Take trips.
Travel seems to be a big deal. I’ve noticed there are a lot of different ways to do it. My Dad likes to take car trips. Don’t stay at home staring at the walls. Go places. See things.
Try new hobbies.
There must be something you can do that you have never done.
Never stop.
I think that’s self-explanatory.
Enjoy it.
Let go of all the little details and worries and just enjoy it.
Okay, so the last two get a little soppy Oprah philosophical. Sorry about that. I have some time to refine the list.
