i am wearing the shoes! they make me very tall.
we ended up not going to jazz in the park yesterday because Carolyn didn't show up at work yesterday, which left me puzzled and sad and unable to confirm with her whether we were going or not. So instead, Biff and I ended up watching Hit Me Baby 1 More Time, that TV show about one-hit wonders being asked to perform their hit and having the audience vote on who would win. We both agreed that Haddaway and The Knack were the most talented performers...when they featured Haddaway discussing how he loves golf, I said that he should make a remix of his "What is Love" song called "What is Golf?", while Biff thought that he should keep his trashy backup dancers as a retinue to follow him everywhere. Tommy Tutone was awful--the poor guy's singing of Blink 182's song that has that "Na na na na na na na na na/na na na na na NA na na na na" was absolutely painful. Earsplittingly bad. The Motels were pretty bad as well. But Vanilla Ice...holy shit, the guy is hilarious. The reason? He has that same delusional complex as Fabio but about Rap. I thought that the reasons he won was because the audience--who was largely in their 20's--remembered how much they thought Vanilla rocked. I mean, heck, I know all the words to "Ice, Ice Baby." We even used to sing it in French back in highschool to annoy our teacher, going "Glace, Glace Enfant." Plus Vanilla's dance moves were terrible! It was like watching--no offense to epileptics intended--him have an epileptic fit while trying to make it look cool. The pelvic thrusts alone were the stuff of nightmares. At least he donated all the money to the Make a Wish association.
Anyone who writes the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Rap Song has to get some kind of prize for sheer audacity. An excerpt:
YO! It's the green machine -- Gonna rock the town without bein' seen Have you ever seen a turtle Get Down? -- Slammin' Jammin' to the new swing sound Yeah, everybody let's move -- Vanilla is here with the new Jack Groove Gonna rock, and roll this place -- With the power of the ninja turtle bass Iceman, ya know I'm not playin' -- Devistate the show while the turtles are sayin:
Chorus: Ninja, Ninja, RAP! Ninja, Ninja, RAP! GO GO GO Go Ninja, Go Ninja, GO; Go Ninja, Go ninja, GO! Go Ninja, Go Ninja. GO; Go Ninja, Go ninja, GO! GO GO GO GO
Rock on, Vanilla.
