It has been hot this weekend. Wisconsin has been sizzling like a piece of bacon in a frying pan, and living in an apartment without air conditioning has been a bit of an emotional/physical strain. We have had to resort to pretending that we're in
A.) El Salvador B.) Cambodia C.) The generic "jungle" D.) The set of the movie "PREDATOR"
to just get through the day. Taking into account that I am feeling 'unwell' and emotionally on the verge of seizing people who annoy me and shaking the crap out of them, and it is like reclining on a bed of "HELL'S INFERNO Firecrackers" while smoking a cigar (*like the proverbial Sword of Damocles, only hotter).
The BLUE ANGELS visited town this weekend, and boy oh boy, did they let their presence be known. The bastards. They had to demonstrate their terrifyingly loud fighter jets every five minutes for four hours for FOUR DAYS in a row. It was truly a torment. They should label them as "Nascar in the sky!": the idiots who turned out to watch their "displays" of "aerial acrobatics" should be "castrated." Seriously, the blue angels were so, SO obnoxious...
Finally, I *did* see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory this weekend, and I loved it. Johnny Depp is one of the two actors in Hollywood who is immune to celebrity mockery: he's absolutely awesome and adorable and his movies are great. Here, as Willy Wonka, he taps into the vocal mannerisms of someone who is not necessarily creepy, but who has worn braces for far too long and who has enjoyed the privileges afforded to financially-profitable eccentricity. The Charlie in this movie version is a brilliant actor who makes you really empathize with his family's plight, while his grandpa is truly fun and inspiring. The Oompa-Loompa's musical numbers are really quite kickin': I really enjoyed it when all the bratty children got their just deserts.
I give the movie an "A"! Plus, the "willy wonka" song has been stuck in my head for days.
