happy talk like a pirate day! Arrrrr!
back in highschool, methinks i took this holiday most seriously. as a wee apprentice pirate, i was cap'n of the school's art club, and led me crew in talkin' like pirates. although most of them were limited in their choice o' pirate words to things like "booty" and "arrr," they were a damn fine crew!
at any rate, here be some fine pirate quotations to get ye started off correctly:
"Well, many's the long night I've dreamed of cheese--toasted, mostly . . . "
--Treasure Island
" . . . I lived on rum, I tell you. It's been meat and drink, and man and wife, to me . . . "
--also Treasure Island
Elizabeth: "That's it, then? That's the secret, grand adventure of the infamous Jack Sparrow. You spent three days lying on a beach drinking rum." Jack Sparrow: "Welcome to the Caribbean, luv."
--from Pirates of the Carribbean
Pirate: We can't leave yet, Captain. We haven't put enough food on board. Dawg Brown: We need less mouths. [Shoots Pirate]
--from Cutthroat Island
[the pirates have heard what appears to be the ghost of Captain Flint] George Merry: Long John, don't you go crossing no spirit! Long John Silver: Spirit, eh? Maybe. But man, beast, or spirit... I don't care if it's Beelzebub himself. I'M GONNA GET THAT LOOT! --from Treasure Island
"Garrr! Joe's be the only place for me!"
--Steve the Pirate, from "Dodgeball"
