Cootie Girl: The HC in the NYC
5.18.2003
It was my delight to find out on Thursday night at THEE Honky Cracker was going to be making an appearance down here in NYC. I was worried I was not going to be able to see him since I had a weekend of volunteering planned out for myself. It's a good thing he wasn't coming down here for any particular reason so he was able to join me on some of my projects. I will try to keep this brief, as it is way past my bedtime already.
Friday night HC arrives just a little tardy but that is ok since I was working at the soup kitchen. He got there in time to help me clean up and close the place down. We spent the rest of the night walking around the city and talking about our dreams and aspirations. I got home just a 1/2 hour late of my bedtime but I didn't mind since I was hanging out with the HC.
I got up early Saturday morning to go to central park to plant a tree. HC joined me around 10am and we joined some members of the New York Restoration Project and went around cleaning some of the new parks up in Harlem. It was such a lovely day. The weather was just a little chilly so we warmed up with a cup of hot mulled cider. HC had made plans with Rich for dinner so I left him while I went to go help package up dinners for God's Love We Deliver. It was such a long day and I was glad to be home and in bed by 9:30pm.
I woke up bright and early on Sunday morning and went for a 2-mile run. I called HC to see what his plans were for the day. I knew he wasn't stay much longer in NYC since he did have to be home to Boston before bedtime so he can be ready for work on Monday morning. We kept the day light and went to 10am mass followed by visiting some sick and elderly. By 1:30 pm we were cheering along the walkers at Aids Walk NY. We spent our last hours together along Riverside Park enjoying an Ice Cream while watching the boats float by.
By 5 o'clock, I walked HC to catch his bus. I truly had a lovely time (I hope he did as well). As his bus pulled away and left me waving on the platform I thought that kid is going places.
