God I love Sundays! Well now with my new job I love every other Sunday (I work on a magazine that goes to press every other week so I work the alternate Sundays). The non-working Sundays I love.
I remember growing up and waking up Sunday mornings to watch Abbott and Costello or Laurel and Hardy movies - they always seem to be 10 min short of the full hour so they would end the hour with a Courageous Cat & Minute Mouse cartoon. As I got older I remember watching movies like "Planet of the Apes" or a Hitchcock film with my dad.
Now almost 20 years later I like to do two extremes on my Sunday - 1) go out to brunch and drink all day or 2) veg on the couch and recover from my Friday and Saturday nights out. Today I was somewhat productive and cleaned my room, did my laundry and ended the evening right with some take out and a good film. I decided to share my top 5 movies to watch on a lazy hazy Sunday (top 5 lists courtesy of "High Fidelity" the book I am currently reading).
TOP 5 Sunday Movies:
1. Wonder Man (the movie I watched tonight. I really love Danny Kaye movies it was a toss between this one and The Five Pennies but today I was feeling Wonder Man.)
2. Almost any John Hughes movie although Sixteen Candles is my favorite. JAKE!
3. Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory is a good choice if you suffer from a case of the munchies or PMS. Did anyone besides Sean find the Oompa Loompa's scary? (Oh and did you know that Tim Burton is doing a remake?)
4. The Commitments unlike most things Irish I actually love this movie (and it's not because there are two scenes in it where they cast is at my favorite pizza place. R.I.P. Fat Freddy's Pizzeria I miss you!)
5. The fifth one is turning out to be a hard one. I was thinking Animal House but thought I had the teen movie already with Sixteen Candles. I guess today I am going to go with A Life Less Ordinary just because Ewan McGregor is really cute singing Beyond the Sea.
Alternate movies which someday may make the top five include Rebel Without a Cause (just for Jimmy), LOTR (cause according to my friends I am a geek) and The Pit cause it RAWKS!
