I'm not the happiest girl on the block these days. I have been having problems with my computer at home and I am now at the point where I am ready to buy a new one. I bought this PC computer 3 years ago and it came with windows Millennium edition OS system. Since I am now employed I have been slowly upgrading my machine to accommodate my iPod. I have added a ram chip a fire wire card and upgraded the OS system to windows XP home edition. This past weekend I bought an extra external hard drive (120GB) to accommodate all the music I have been saving to the computer (current count is at 6,128 songs or 25 GB). So I went delete happy the other day because I was getting pretty fed up with the driver alerts I was getting on log in ... which eventually caused my CD drive to not work properly which means I can not save any more music to my computer UGH! What is a girl to do? Luckily I moved all of my music files to my new external drive but I still need some important documents (like my 2003 taxes, which I did but have not sent in YET! Double UGH!).
OK so I sucked it up and called tech support ... Monday night I called Microsoft even though I know it most likely is a dell problem. I was speaking with some guy named Ahbee in India for about an hour (mostly I was on hold) and got nowhere fast. He said he was going to call me back but he never did and I just went to bed. Tuesday night I tried the dell support team and I was speaking with another gentleman in India (Joseph) for over 2 hours. He got me to reinstall the millennium OS system so I could go in and retrieve my files that I do not want to lose. I got to a point where I could save my files but my CD burner wasn't working and my external hard drive wasn't showing up so I had to save my files to ZIP disks which I only had 2 handy and I needed 3 (WHY ME GOD!!!).
Monday night I ended up having these weird zombie dreams - kind of like dawn of the dead but the people weren't dead they were infected so maybe I have a little 28 days later in there. Tuesday I slept but for only 4 hours. This week at work has been rough since I now have been informed that I will be working on a 7th magazine (another startup OH JOY). Can things get any better? By Wednesday I didn't want to deal with my computer problems (maybe it's just that I need to file my taxes and I don't know when I will be able to get to them since they are sitting on my computer which is at this point a paper weight). I am stressed at work. I am not sleeping at night. I'm a mess!
Wednesday night Tricia and I went to a new restaurant, Blue Moon. It was lovely but we were too full to go get desert at the crepe place down the street. We decided sometime in September of last year that we would try new restaurants at least once a month. We went to our first new place in January Kate's Joint then we went to Rue de Crepes this month was Blue moon (all of them have been excellent so far). After dinner we went to meet up with some other friends, one who was visiting from Cali. I went home early but avoided my computer. Maybe I'll wait until Saturday since I don't need anymore stress right now.
So here's the big question. My new computer should it be a desktop or laptop? MAC or PC? I work on a MAC all day so I really don't want to work on one when I am at home however I can get a boat load of free software since I have the stuff right here ... on the other hand I grew up on a PC and can probably get the few programs I need from a friend. Or do you think I should just go without a computer for a while, regroup and maybe look for a new job.
