Cootie Girl: a big fat Italian wedding
8.15.2004
I was never the girl that dreamt about her wedding day. Well not really - in the past few years I have been picking up ideas of thing I would like to do to be different and all and when I go to other weddings or hear about other weddings there is always something that I think "hey that is neat I might do that too." My latest idea is to get married in Vegas in the course of 2 days I would be married to the same man 5 times in 5 different locations/situations. You know like the little white chapel wedding, the treasure island pirate wedding, the drive through, the Elvis wedding, or whatever I can find that is a bit cheesy and over the top. Different sets of guests would be invited to different ceremonies and one big reception on the 2nd night where everyone will be seated at a table with someone from a different ceremony. It's a bit much I know but then again just an idea. Or actually having a theme wedding like a 50's sock hop just because I want to wear a poodle skirt and saddle shoes. Anyway I went to a wedding last night of my college friend and it had something that I have never seen at a wedding before a Viennese Hour.
Apparently they are common to an Italian wedding - I never been to a true Italian wedding (where both people were Italian) so I never experienced this Viennese Hour. The wedding was at Russo's on the Bay which apparently is a big ta-do place for a wedding. There are 2 different reception rooms where the couple can make a grand entrance. In one room the couple comes up through the floor with smoke machine going in the room we were in the couple came down stairs that appeared from behind a hidden wall with a screen to see their silhouette and smoke machine. It was like they were royalty walking down the stairs (had it been me I would have been waving with my hand cupped like the queen mum). They had a special martini for the couple called a "Melinatini" in honor for the bride, which contained Southern Comfort and some other juices. I drank just a little too much but had a great time - it was a really beautiful wedding. I was happy they didn't bother with the chicken dance, the electric slide, or the Macarena (something I will not do at my wedding either). But what really got me after all the food that was there they ended the evening with a Viennese Hour - again have you heard about this??? Here is just a list of the items that was available:
Assortment of Cakes, Cookies, & Pastries
Ice Cream Sundae Bar
Jelly Apples
Cotton Candy
Assortment of Candies
Seasonal Assortment of Fresh Fruit
Banana Foster
Strawberries Maisone
Chocolate Dipped Fruit & Pretzels
Charlotte Rousse
Baklava
Crème Brule
Crepe Suzette
Cappuccino & Espresso (After Dinner Cordials)
They had this tower of melting chocolate where you can just let your fruit or pretzel run over it. They even had Snow Cones, Popcorn and fresh cannolli's - I was in heaven. So I have decided that no matter what I do for my wedding I will have a Viennese Hour but because I have to one up every one mine will be something on the line of a Willy Wonka theme - I might even get lick able wallpaper for the occasion just so I can make people try the snozberries.
Oh and wedding hangovers suck especially when you have to go to work the next day. I really need a new job these alternate Sundays are really starting to annoy me.
