elanamatic: earplugs
I might need to invest in a pair of heavy-duty earplugs, and maybe some blinders for using at my workstation. As if the constant chatter in my brain and on the web wasn't distracting enough, the non-stop conversations and ins and outs are making me mental.
In honor of the white noise riot, I bought some new(ish - or at least to my collection) albums on Friday night to help ease the current work and sensory overload:
Arcade Fire - Funeral I've been listening to it online for awhile now. It's very listenable and besides, they are from Montreal.
Matador At Fifteen - compilation It's a best of Matador, enough said.
Naturally - Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings I read the review after I bought it. I was hooked by the first song.
Handsome Boy Modeling School - So How's Your Girl This was the dude's pic, I wanted the new one but I will have to pick it up another time.
Devendra Banhart - Rejoicing in the Hands A recommendation from my super cool cousin Dave. This is a pretty flaky folk album but I dig it. The dude and I took Dave and his gf out for dinner at Little Tibet the other night. The resto was light and fun and so was the company. Dave, who woos me with his excellent mix CDs, is in first year university. At the end of the night, he told the dude and I that "We're pretty hip for old people."
Translation: it's impressive that we still go out (occasionally) and are aware of trends in music, TV and fashion, but we catch on at least six months behind the true hipsters.
