elanamatic: The Tuck So for the first time in my adult life, I tucked in my shirt today. This for me, is a big deal. It screams conservative, although conservatives are less likely to scream, unless of course their family values are under attack ;-)
As I left the house, I felt quite mannish in my grey slacks, belted with tucked in stripey shirt. I look slim, which is nice, but when I got to work and someone pointed out that a male co-worker and I were wearing practically the same outfit, my concerns were justified. I think it will take me a short while longer to figure out my new work wardrobe.
I have been struggling with keeping the tuck in all morning. I suddenly flashed back to grade 8, and the era of the bodysuit. I hit puberty kinda late and was tall and lanky, so I loved wearing tight clothes at that age.
My friend Andrea taught me to create a fake bodysuit but tucking my too tight shirts into my underwear. She was one of my first friends in high school. I saw her laugh and swish her long hair one day and I had to have her as my ally. I started passing notes, mostly poking fun at the boys, the teacher and possibly the other girls, and after a few laughs I was in. The written word has always been my social tour de force. Sadly we lost touch over the years, but I wonder if she still tucks shirts into her underwear. I will admit it, I just did.
