just back from a respite in cherry grove beach, sc. the 'rents rented a beach house for a few days. the weather was totally excellent. perfect for beach sitting during the day and a fleece pullover at night. we had a house on the canal side (beach front is too mainstream for my pops) and my brothers - gary and jim - fished off the deck using fishing poles, a fishing net and a crab trap. using leftover pancakes and sausage from one breakie they caught three crabs. you can imagine the "gary's got crabs" joke was neverending. even my mom got in on that one.
now i'm back at work and blue and it's rainy and crappy. uck.
we watched a funny show while on vacay. it's called most extreme elimination challenge on spike tv ("television for men"). the show is hard to explain but so so funny. it takes place in japan and is dubbed in english. two men provide commentary while a group of wackily dressed japanese men and women compete in tasks like walk across the back of blow-up floating turtles, dodging giagantic paper-mache boulders and trying to chomp on lunck sacks hung from ropes while dressed in a flour sack. the dubbing is hysterical. before each contestant compete they shout something to the crowd and it gets dubbed as stuff like "i love denzel!" and "my divorce is final and i got everything even the houseboat!" i don't think i ever saw my dad laugh so hard. during one particular scene, a contestant is moping because she didn't get any food from the "lunch sack" competition, so some of her friends are piling their lunches in her helmut. the host tells her "i'd give you some of my lunch sack but it wouldn't fit in that helmet" - there were a lot of sack jokes that episode.
if you get a chance, watch it. you'll love it. (thursdays at 9pm)
