my guitar teacher is the most excellent woman ever. she's just so damn nifty. her home is called "little lake hill", built in 1932 in the heart of raleigh and there she hosts small house concerts from time to time. i've been dying to go to one and this past weekend craig and i did just that. the artist was cool john ferguson. he plays the guitar left handed which to a gal like me who is having trouble playing it right handed it was just pure amazing to watch. not to mention that he can really sing and got the crowd to boogie-woogie (at least some sort of wacky interpretation of boogie-woogie). it was no small crowd - 140 people packed in! you bring your own wine and beer. bring some snacks to share if you like - i brought my famous chocolate chip toffee cookies. my darling husband kept pointing out people that had one, two and yes, even three of my cookies in their hands. i'm happy to report that ALL of mine were gone by the end of the night.
you had to fill out a name tag at the door and put a special interest on your tag. my tag read "lisa - READING". craig kept laughing all night because it was like i just learned to read yesterday or something. well, he didn't list any interests, so there. at least i have my reading.
anywho, house concerts. very cool. i didn't think it was possible in 2004 to let strangers into your home and not have anything stolen or broken. but it is.
