Nutshell Kingdom: Creek Heaven
2003
It is awful hard on pretty days in early summer rural Virginia not to just leave work and go out into the mountains and hike about and go for swims under waterfalls and sit in the sun and wear yourself out. Work and school wear out my soul, but days like these wear out my body.
Couple this with the fact that the nights are even prettier. More often than not, if you are lucky enough to have a friend, you can find yourself sitting on rooftops, parkbenches, fire escapes, blankets in darkened yards just talking and talking and looking at stars and generally finding a myriad of ways to keep yourself entertained until the trash trucks come rumbling by and the sky begins to lighten. Its great except for the fact that you were already dead tired from the day's swim, hike, frolic.
Compound this with my other great passion and you see my dilemma. I suppose that you all know that TBS shows two consecutive Dawson's Creek reruns at 10 and 11 every weekday morning. I never watched the Creek when it was on primetime (I thought it was boring) but I am rapidly coming around to the reruns. Unfortunately, because of all the tiredness and late nights and lack of a structured bedtime, I am oversleeping more and more and missing key episodes. What exactly did Pacey say to Joey to get her to change her mind? Why is Jen so sorry about what she did to Henry? Where the hell did that character come from? It sucks. But I cannot seem to wake up in time.
I know, I know. Set your VCR. Tape them and watch them later. I can't. I never figured out how to set it and have since lost the manuel. What I want is a TV in my bedroom. I can just roll over and hit the remote and be in Creek heaven without moving a muscle. At least until more outdoor playtime comes along or the coffeepot starts calling.
All this, and I'm actually trying to work a job. I love summers.
