Nutshell Kingdom: The Cup
2005
We pooled our resources and put them on the coffee table between the ash-filled bottle caps and the hardened pools of candle wax. $5.63. Not enough. Sheryl got up and brought over the big plastic soda cup full of coins. A Moose cup was what we called it. It was from Hardee's or 7-11 and held 64 ounces of soda and constituted a free refill. But this Moose cup would hold no more Coke. It was filled with mostly pennies, from the look of it. Maybe the quarters sunk to the bottom, we hoped.
We took the cup to the store and emptied it into the coin sorter. $13.27. Minus 10%. $11.94. That gave us $17.57 total. We packed crackers and peanut butter and bottles of water. We put as much gas as we thought we needed into the sad little Datsun hatchback. It was only 132 miles to the beach. Once there, we'd be out of money and out of gas.
Too much fun. We'd worry about money later.
