Nutshell Kingdom: Charity
2006
Dear Mr. Cahya,
While stuffing envelopes today, I noticed a letter on behalf of Ted Turner and the United Nations Foundation thanking you for your generous donation of two dollars going to help the Pakistani-Indian earthquake victims.
Mr. Cahya, even as a temporary employee here, I feel I must take initiative and let you know that two dollars is a lot less than what anyone else donated...and I've seen hundreds of these thank-you notes today. None of them are for amounts even close to your two dollars.
To be fair, I donated nothing to earthquake victims. Of course, I also am not getting a thank-you note on behalf of Ted Turner. In fact, when one stops to factor in all the time, labor and resources that went into collecting and processing your two dollar donation, I believe that it is no stretch to say that you literally depleted resources from that poor, disaster-stricken region. In a way, my donation of nothing was more generous than your two dollars.
If you look at your thank-you letter on behalf of Ted Turner and the United Nations Foundation, you will notice a frowny face in red ink on the upper right-hand corner. I drew that on my own initiative, to let you know that your donation was insufficient. Also, please note the two chewed up raisins from my lunch. They are also from me, not Ted Turner.
Next time, give your two bucks to some homeless guy.
Sincerely,
The Temp
