Nutshell Kingdom: When I was a Boy
2006
When I was a boy I used to climb up into my treehouse and read books about knights and wizards everyday after school. One day while I was engrossed in a particularly awesome story, a little bird flew right into the treehouse and landed in the doorway.
"Hello little bird," I said.
And he replied, "Hello yourself."
Needless to say I was stunned, and so after some polite conversation with the bird about his day and his life as a bird in general, I asked him whether I had entered some magical land.
"Not likely," he replied. "It's only a treehouse, I suppose."
"Perhaps I have some sort of magical power then," I wondered out loud.
"It depends," he replied, "on your definition of magical powers. I really wouldn't know what you mean. For instance, do you suppose that I have any magical powers?"
"You can talk!" I exclaimed.
"Well, so can you. I suppose you have magical powers after all, if that's all it takes."
