I am trying to keep up with the Scooter Libby trial but am having a hard time deciding who to root for and, more specifically, who to believe. On one hand, there's Libby himself, claiming things that cannot possibly be true. On the other hand, there are a bunch of Bush administration hacks obviously throwing poor Scooter so far under the bus that he might just come out the other side. These witnesses are people who haven't told the truth throughout their entire professional careers. These are people who actually believe that lying is in the country's best interest, because it is in the interest of their careers...and they live in this country? I don't know - these lying fucks confuse me mightily.
There is a solution. It seems to me that the nation's security just might hinge on knowing who outed Ms. Plame and why they did it. She was a CIA operative, no? Therefore, all these administration witnesses who have such a hard time giving straight, honest-sounding answers should just be waterboarded. Or wet down naked in a freezing room. Or blindfolded and tied while dogs sniff at their exposed genitals. Or forced to listen to really loud Red Hot Chili Pepper CDs.
After all, these things are legal. It isn't like torture or anything. Just an effective means of getting reliable information.
This nation's security demands it. You want to be safe, don't you?
