Nutshell Kingdom: Onion Article Misinterpreted...Again
2007
I just got this email as part of a birdwatching listserv. God. I will neverget tired of people thinking the Onion is serious news. Serious news is actually funny these days. Anyway, here's the email (name redacted):
Forgive what may be deemed slightly off-post, but readers of va-bird should
be, I think, aware of this ...
The Onion, a so-called NEWS site, on April 11, 2007 published an article by
Elaine Wynne entitled, "The Sibley Guide to Birds Has Clearly Misidentified
the Dark-Eyed Junco" in which she complains that he lists the Juncos with
Finches instead of Sparrows, and has done so in both the 2nd and now the 3rd
editions.
I don't have the 2nd nor the 3rd edition, but I do have first editions of
both the Guide to Birds and the Field Guide, in which Juncos are clearly
included with Sparrows!!
Ms. Wynne goes on to malign also Peterson, The Aububon Society and others
calling them Bastards! I hadn't been aware of The Onion, but this is
ridiculous! You can read the rant @
If this is satire it's untrue, unfair, not to mention unconscionable!
