I just got my 3-DVD box set of pre-Hayes Code movies from Turner Classics and watched the first two features yesterday afternoon. The films were "The Divorcee" and "A Free Soul," both starring Norma Shearer as some sort of libertine who is always sort-of punished for her promiscuity (which doesn't seem terribly promisicuous to most of us today).
Anyway, at one juncture she utters one of the best lines in movie history, when commenting on the disintegration of a once-happy relationship with studly, young, bad boy Clark Gable:
"So, the moonbeams have turned into worms....and they're all crawling away."
