A 33-year-old man accused of killing and decapitating a pony in an Arden pasture two weeks ago returns to court next month.
Richard VanNess of Belleville was released yesterday after a brief appearance in court. He was arrested over the weekend on 14 charges arising from the slaughter of the three-year-old pinto pony named "Sunday."
Police believe a hunter mistook the pony for a deer and cut off the animal's head to conceal the type of firearm used.
