I thought that you might find the following anecdote interesting... Due to the ongoing "situation," most restaurants and cafes have hired private security guards to stand at the entrance. Last week I was sitting at the Espresso Bar, a branch of a popular yuppie-style chain of cafes in Tel Aviv, on King George Street, near the Diezengoff Centre; when I asked for the bill, it was presented together with a card which, translated, reads as follows:

"Dear Patrons. For your personal security, and in order to permit you to continue to enjoy the coffee experience at the Espresso Bar in Tel Aviv, we have hired armed security guards in all of our cafes. We ask, as a contribution to this effort, one shekel per guest. We absorb the remainder of the expense. We thank you for your cooperation during this period, and hope for better days."

P.S. the cost is not voluntary: it is added to the bill. I saved the card, and am thinking of starting a scrapbook.
