Diabetes and poison wine:

At the passover table, I sat across from Ita Zelliger who is 80-something, 4'10, with large, magnified glasses. She talks in a little, kvetchy voice, heavily accented from the old country.

She makes her own strong, vile wine and three different kinds of bland, sweet kugel. (hey, I just thought of something. Wouldn't neoplolitan keugel make the kids happy?).

She ate nothing that she brought, so I asked her:"Ita, why don't you eat your food and drink your wine?"

Ita answered, shaking her head ruefully: "I am sick mit sugar."
