I have the feeling I will be going to Delhi, although Bubaneshwar is still a possibility. In either place, I will be working for the BJVS.
Their neutral agenda is literacy and primary education. Politically, they are looking for ways to combat fascist and right-wing Hindu nationalist movement (BJP). Not surprisingly, they are not getting much BJP-lead coalition Government funding anymore. Ahrundati Roy wrote and article for The Nation called Fascism's Firm Footprint in India. It is a great article. Here is a version of that article written for ZNet
The BGVS group has also joined up with a women's group to support and raise awareness about politically-motivated violence against women, in situations like the Gujarat massacre.
Oh yeah, if you haven't already, did you still want to send me fundraising $? I feel like public radio during fundraising week. Sorry if this is annoying.
These articles are super-heavy. I am learning a shitload, though. I promise more lighthearted entries soon.
