Pony: Chitrakoot
2.20.2003
Once they convinced the women learners that the earth was round (very hard to do apparently), they showed them that the earth was filled with molten lava by putting an onion in an oven and peeling it. All the heat is strongest at the centre.
Tomorrow I leave for Chitrakoot, Uttar Pradesh. I get to see rural women making a monthly newspaper. Part of me was getting so used to being in the city and reading in cafes and exploring, but I snapped out of it. This is a chance of a lifetime.
I have my ticket to Thailand in my hot little hands. I am gearing up for more adventure.
Meanwhile lots and lots of work to do.
Hey, I just finished the Glass Palace on Lisa May's recommendation. It was epic. And great. I need a new book for the train ride to Chitrakoot. Recommendations?
This is so embarassing, but in the weekly meeting (that I did not attend) my messy desk was addressed and they figuratively drew straws to see who would be the one to tell me to throw away my water bottles and stack my papers.
The "boss" here (although they deny there is such a hierarchy) is the most regal woman I have ever met. She is gorgeous, 40-something with perfect skin and a grey-streaked bob. She wears shawls like they are mink stoles (sp?). And she scares the crap out of me.
