And we would have got away with it too if it hadn't been for those meddling Americans.
This morning, I turned on the news to hear that Sadaam Hussein's sons had been killed. The US military referred to them as "The Ace of Hearts and the Ace of Clubs". What is this, Scooby Doo? A game of Clue?
This fog of game-like symbols and moralizing rhetoric is a bit confusing. Um, didn't they just kill some people in a horrible fiery death? Once we finish with the bull's eye woo-hoo's and assign the $30 million to the person who ratted them out, is it possible for those who speak on behalf of the American people to take a moment of sober reflection on lives lost?
I know we've got the death penalty south of the border, and I am not so down with that. But I thought there was this thing called due process. Where you take people to court, let them defend themselves, call on witnesses, present evidence, document the process...
And if that system of justice and accountability is the very backbone of the liberty the US government is purporting to defend, I would like to know why that is suddenly irrelevant for the Iraqi people, even the allegedly corrupt sons of a murderous despot.
Jonathan Falk, A professor at UCLA writes in The Nation: "There is no doubt that the Iraqi people have been liberated, although for what remains obscure."
