It has been a very low-key weekend. Looooow key. And lovely.
And I am getting better at this. At not feeling like i am missing out on what I don't know what I am missing out on.
The body good
After all those hours at a desk, my body was sore and after all that snotty cold thing, my breathing was wheezy. To combat the craptastic feeling, I booked a massage with Rebecca who strips the lactic acid from my "mouse" hand (short-term pain for long-term gain) and eases down my stiff neck and shoulders.
Today was yoga class with Bibi: two hours of delightful stretchy breath-y goodness.
It had been ages since I went to a full-length yoga class, but I remembered:
Thing I love about yoga: that dewy gentle look that everyone gets as they roll up their mat and look around.
Thing I hate about yoga: people who try to describe that feeling. So I won't. Sorry about that.
The pie hole and the money pit
On Yom Kippur I did not eat, but stayed in and worked a bit from home, then read. Didn't really feel hungry until 4pm.
That day I thought fair amount about consumption. About how so many of my significant gestures come from my desire to eat or drink. Getting out of bed for coffee. Meeting people for a drink. Running errands for groceries, clothes, etc. How all of these habits are fed by my job. And how, given these habits, how cheerless and crappy I feel when I am broke or without work as though all of my impulses are broken down when I am "off the grid" of petty cash. There is something wrong in that, you know?
But then my brain sort of stopped actively analyzing everything, and I read some magazines. Not that I was expecting one, but there were no lasting epiphanies this year. I broke my fast with Chris' cousin Dawn and Dave et Abi. The jews in the house will be delighted to note that we ate peperoni pizza. It was a lovely night.
And we finally sold our brown 1971 airborne sofa (La Patate) to some thrilled loft-dwellers. And we consciously/conspicuously consumed a Canon Elph powershot SD450 with some of the proceeds. And you will be happy to know that we have filled our consumer void! Finally, there is nothing else we need to buy!
ha.
