In Canada we get a whole year of maternity leave on 40% salary (the equivalent of Employment Insurance) plus whatever top-up your company gives you (gov't jobs give the most). I have never really thought how luxurious that was until this summer. I always thought I would be bored to tears not working, but this has been, in many ways, the best time of my life.
Sure, I miss my bike, uninterrupted sleep, and I wish I had more time to read, write, and hang with Kiff. But it is month five of mat leave, and the tailend of a heatwave, and I got a little green froggy pool for the backyard. How awesome is that?*
