Pony: Snow Craze
12.16.2007
Ok, I should have taken pictures, but we are not quite right in the head. Between the biggest blizzard in 15 years and upper respiratory infections, I have been stuck mostly at home for days and going a bit mental.
Today, Kiff was about to get "All work and no play makes Kiff a dull boy" on me. We were so cabin-fevered, we were fighting about who gets to go out and shovel the walk. (In the end, we shared the duty).
I mean, mental.
After his nap, we fought with G for 20 minutes to get his snowsuit on and put him in his little red sled for the first time and when we finally got out into all that magical, pristine snow he cried and cried so we had to go back inside.
the yummy part
On the bright side of things, we had plenty of food, including a whole leg of lamb that Sarah had left over from the French Farmhouse cooking class she had taken with her dad. After some research, we decided to make the sephardic stuffed lamb recipe in Nigella Lawson's Feast. Truly excellent.
To accompany it, I made marinaded (with olive oil and lemon juice and garlic and served with fresh mint) and roasted japanese eggpant and chopped up a beet and apple salad and whipped up some cous cous with dates and herbs and it was just all so rich and lovely, I might never make it outside again.
the gross part
On a less appetizing note, I was totally without hearing in one ear for 2 days and when I finally went to the doctor, he flushed all this water in it with an old-school steel syringe and out came a bunch of wax and probably Ambrose Small. It was crazy. I thanked him sincerely when we were done and he seemed happy to have such a straightforward solution. There are a few things in life that are really personal and really gross, but you just have to share them anyway because you feel such a profound sense of relief. This was one.
