Doggy Doggy Doggy Doggy Doggy Doggy Doggy!
Twice this year we’ve had friends with terriers who have found them in need of dog sitting and dear Mrs. Robot has volunteered our services. Instead of going to the dog, we have the dog stay with us.
Hudson
The first dog visitor was the young and handsome Hudson. He was/is still a pup and was suffering from “excitable pee control” issues and if I did something, he’d get excited and follow me around the apartment leaking. A little trail.
So, he leaked.
On the other hand, going for walks with him was fun because he would always stop and watch what people were doing. They could be across the street, but he’d stop and quietly observe them. We could never figure out what certain people were doing that would attact his attention.
Junior
This past weekend (and still there as I type this) we had Junior stay with us. He’s about two years old and for the most part is super calm as long as things aren’t happening (i.e. no sudden noises or large trucks or people walking up the stairs or trashcans being moved or crinkly bags). He’s a quirky little dog.
Unlike Hudson, Junior slept in the bed with us. He was a fine bed companion except that I seemed to always wake up without any blankets (not sure who to blame). I think he likes to sleep.
He normally never ever barks but did bark one morning at someone walking up the stairs in the hallway and that was pretty exciting.
Poop and Walk
This weekend I picked up poop via the plastic bag method. I’ve never done that and to be honest it’s pretty much the reason why I haven’t wanted a dog in the city.
But, I did it. Twice.
It helps that Junior isn’t a huge dog.
Walking a dog is always nice. Getting outside and seeing the neighborhood. People talk to you a lot more if you have a dog. What is always entertaining is how people will comment on the dog as you walk by but don’t acknowledge the human. I suspect parents have this happen to them as well.
“Oh, he’s cute!”
Get a Dog!
As much as I like dogs and don’t terribly mind the apartment smelling a big doggy, it’s a bit of a pain in an apartment building; having to go out in crappy weather so they can use the bathroom and not having a lot of space to run around inside.
Our apartment is too small.
P.S.
We also had dinner with Ella (and her parents Lisa and Mr. Lisa) on Saturday. They brought Ella down to NYC to celebrate her birthday. And I bought her a cupcake.
HB Ella!
