Gushing over dogs that are being walked by thug types and calling them "cute" or "sweet"
Dogs that snort
Dogs that sit next to the owners on park benches
The French bulldog in our building - he just generally makes me smile.
My childhood dog's tendency to chase us on our sleds and try to steal the pom-poms off our winter hats
Dogs with lopsided ears
Watching Evan's late dog-pal Toast licking the floor as the thanksgiving turkey dripped turkey juice
My brother's dog's love of Wheaties
Herding Did I ever tell you about Mazzy herding a small child around? Mazzy is my brother's brown lab, and after Me & Mrs. Robot's wedding (in 2000) my parents threw a fun little brunch for everyone and our pal Mitch brought his young daughter along. I forget her name. She was probably... 4? 5? and was wandering around the backyard with Mazzy who was quietly herding her. Mazzy was being really nice and calm about, but she was definitely guiding her with gentle nudges and keeping her out of the bushes and snake hiding places.
Cougar Herding Now, if this had been a cougar, the story would of gone: Mitch brought his daughter, and my brother's cougar stalked her for a few minutes before attacking her and dragging her off by her head. And then she was eaten.
Oh, Linda Our friend Linda raises and shows these nutso Australian cattle dogs down in NC. Yesterday she called to tell us about how her main boy dog is freaking out because the main girl dog is in heat. Apparently it's a real headache with the amount of dog hormones being produced in her yard and having to make sure everyone is separated.
Cat in heat I spent one long summer, unemployed, with my cat who was in heat. She was still a kitten and hadn't been fixed yet, but oh lord. The howling all night about drove me mad.
I, on the other hand Am always in heat, but whacha going to do?
Work My job (and my life) is somewhat back to normal. There will be a ton of stuff to do in the next sixth months. A lot of people are leaving the company. That will all be sad.
