I updated my Flickr feed again, gathering a hodge podge of photos scattered on various computers and cameras from the last year or so. The old version of the Flickr Uploader software mixes them up even more.
Funny, one can feel bored and listless and look back over a distillation of life in pictures and imagine all are smiling, active days. And enough are. But how did we remember anything before photos? Stories, I guess.
Below is my great-grandfather, Abe Dalton, of Patrick County, Virginia. A favorite story of my mother's was of her bouncing on his knee as a toddler at the dinner table. The meal was late, so he took his sidearm and shot the empty plates off the table. She always laughed when she told that story. I imagine Abe's second wife, who'd been serving dinner, told it differently.
