Man, I completely forgot about I Can't Believe It's Not Butter until I was watching 20/20 last night with their 'food myths' episode, and it featured butter vs. margarine... I just checked out the ICBINB website, and let me tell you, "Charles Stuart Plattkin" is no Fabio. It sounds more like some stuck-up kid in my highschool gym class...nope, when I shop for a butter-substitute, my Numero Uno factor that i take into consideration isn't taste, or trans-fat content, or whether it containts calcium...it's who the spokesperson is. And seeing that old clip from a goofy Fabio commercial last night made me laugh so hard and reminded me of all the good ol' jokes I used to have about Fabio.
Okay, disclaimer #1 that has to come before all of this:
I DON'T THINK FABIO IS SEXY AT ALL. HE IS MORE THAN A LITTLE BIT CREEPY AND SMARMY AND HAS MAN-BOOBS WHICH I DO NOT FIND ATTRACTIVE. I JUST THINK THAT HE IS AMUSING LIKE A PLASTER BUST OF ELVIS OR A VINTAGE 1970'S KITCHEN. ONLY WITH AN ACCENT. BIFF IS SEXY. FABIO IS NOT. END OF STORY.
That said, any time it came to be my birthday my friends would always end up giving me Fabio book covers... in case you want to check 'em out, they have a ton of his book cover scans at the always-amusing Fabio International Fan Club website. Holy crap. they even have little commercials for ICBINB and everything. I used to send out a weekly email to my friends back in highschool where I would write the entire email as an imaginary missive from everyone's favorite romantic hero...they were pretty damn funny too. Ah wooold write zhe whole thing een a seeely accent...yooo ahr soo beauuootifahl.
Maybe it's funnier in person, I dunno.
The one Fabio item that I still wish I could procure for the bust-your-abdominal-muscles laughing power it possesses would be this... Fabio's CD. Yes, Fabio released an album of himself, described as
"The highlight of the album is "When Somebody Loves Somebody", Fabio's interpretation of what was thought to be his signature song. The lyrics reflect his appreciation of all things feminine, and introduces an incredibly sexy voice his fans have never heard before.
Fabio shares his romanitc fantasies and advice about what makes things work best, "after dark", of course..."
Enjoy, ladies and gents! I just thought I'd share the fun today. :)
