I mean CITY ... sorry about that it's the Mile High City is the winner for the place to be for my Christ year birthday. Denver Colorado here I come.
It was a grueling 4 days of internet searching and planning to get the right deal and have all that I want. I don't think I was asking for much really just a nice quite place to go and relax and unwind. Everyone was telling me to go to the beach or beach places. I'm not much of a beach person - maybe it's because I'm part vampire - no really it's because I'm that Irish fair skin that is almost blue if not transparent - I fear the sun. And I really didn't want to travel south in case a hurricane wanted to join my party. I wasn't looking for just, maybe, perhaps: some mountains, lakes or rivers, scenic views, spas, hot tubs, hiking trails and just quite. Most importantly it had to be a place I have never been. I fell in love with one resort Sheraton Steamboat Springs Resort but then found out it was 4 hour away from the airport so my great deal turned out to be a dud. I was looking everywhere from Alaska, Toronto, Boston, Maine, Utah, New Hampshire, Upstate NY and even Niagara Falls. Did you know they have a Sheraton ON the falls?
This morning on my train ride to work I thought planning my trip should not be this difficult ... I then decided to see where my favorite bands were playing and if any of them were places I wanted to go or have never been. It turns out the Supersuckers are playing in Denver ON the birthday- win win for me! Landed on Site59 and got a great deal for under $800 for 4 nights staying in downtown Denver at this hotel (don't be jealous). In addition to seeing one of my favorite bands I will be going to the Great American Beer Festival (again don't be jealous). There will be over 1,400 beers check it out.
It was touch and go there for a minute when I made my reservations (at 10 in the morning) I never got my confirming email. I waited and waited .... Tricia got so jealous she booked a flight out for Friday night just to see the Supersuckers. I emailed Site59 my 4 because still no confirmation. By 6 I was panicking - still no word. Then just before I was going to leave work I got an email that there was a problem with my reservation ... I called them to find out the hotel was no longer available. I freaked out I called Tricia 4 times the two alternate hotels were not in town and not as nice ... Actually freaking is not the right word cursing worse than a pack of sailors on leave would describe my feelings. My perfect weekend getaway taken from me, and leaving me standing with tickets to a concert I can't go to ... but it all worked out in the end. I called back and got a very nice man that was able to get the hotel I wanted at the price I reserved and now I'm booked. The only thing I have to do is get a car service to the airport (the flight is ridiculously early) and Super Blue shuttle van is completely booked. I may have to trek it out on the train. We'll see - I really don't care I'm going away in less than 31 hours! WOO HOO!
