Ok, I just discovered this Cali based label and I am mooning over the Absolutely Kosher Records Tshirt. As a yid in the biz, I think I need to have it.
Must confess that I used to be extremely quiet about my heebness. Not that it is not physically apparent (huge red hair, schachter shnoz, slight twang when saying things like OMG!) to most in the know but I am a paranoid freak who studied too much Jewish history.
Growing up, I was a sheltered JAP poster girl - quiet anglo suburb in Montreal with predominently MOT (members of tribe) as neighbours, full time Jewish education (5 extra courses a semester, gym class meant no designer jeans, we were not allowed to see condoms in our "Life Studies" classes) and the all too memorable zionist summer camp experience.
In Cegep and university my circle of influence opened up (thankfully!) It's been a non stop conversion ever since. Still, I kept my Jewish identity buried for a long time. I've grown up and become a lot more comfortable with myself, and as a result have become a lot more vocal about things in recent years...
Not sure how I ended up on this tangent as none of that is really stopping me from buying that Tshirt. It's more that while I need new clothes, I have plenty o' clever slogan Ts. What I really need are some new pants, boots and sweaters. Er, I guess the bottom line is that I am still a clothing obsessed Jewish (N)American Princess.
