i've always had sinus/allergy probs. i never get colds, just sinus infections. in the south, they seemed to calm down quite a bit but ever since i've moved back north, they've been flaring with a vengence. a few years ago in a fit of desperation from a sinus problem i was having, i researched herbal remedies and came across the fabled neti pot but was too chicken to try it - dude, i usually swim with nose plugs and now you want me to purposely drain water INTO my nose? but with the recent press neti pots have been enjoying, i became emboldend and ordered a pot from amazon. it finally arrived this past weekend (it took FOREVER for it to ship and be delivered; over three weeks which is the longest i've ever had to wait for something from amazon). on monday i tried it and am sorry to say, i won't be among the millions enjoying the irrigated feeling of clean sinuses.
in the helpful hints section of the instructions is one small little disclaimer that said due to physiology, some people may have wider than normal eustachian tubes in their ears and if you experience ear discomfort, neti potting may not be for you. the very second i started pouring water into my nostril from the pot, my ear plugged up and remained plugged for a good two days. i can only assume that it's because the water went directly into my ear instead of the normal route, out the other nostril. i mean, some water did come out my nostril but i could feel water backing into my ear. i did irrigate both sides of my nose, even with the ear discomfort and instead of feeling refreshed, i had a headache for the rest of the day along with popping ears. perhaps i didn't hold my head right - something i read said that you should almost have your head upside down in the basin of the sink but in all the fun videos posted online of people neti potting, i feel like i had my head right where it should be.
my next experiment will be to have my husband try and see if it reduces his snoring problem.
anyone out there have any luck?
