Nutshell Kingdom: Both Meanings
2005
I took him out when she left.
He talked while I drank and
drank in the color rising in his cheeks, faint
mist of a tear hiding in his blue
eye-corner.
He'd never been more attractive, I swear I
drank some more and he talked till
he was aroused, by her, or
her memory of course, she was
gone and I was well-lit (both
meanings applicable) and besides
my hand was on his thigh -
What chance does anyone have,
with alcohol and ambience? heartbreak
and solace? Did I confuse, obfuscate, take?
(advantage)
Of course, I was drunk and he, well
he was gorgeous and sad and sober
and she was gone away, mad (both meanings).
No one knew I liked both.
Even I didn't know
how handsome I can be in certain light
with too much to drink
and a hand on his thigh.
He was gorgeous, sad and sober.
