Pony: reflections on the schoolyear
5.13.2005
We had a pizza party and arcade evening with the students last night at the base of the CN Tower. We all exchanged presents. I received a HUUGE box of makeup brushes and sponges (about 25 different-angled brushes - what for? I am not so savvy with the makeup.).
I gave her The Chrysalids by John Wyndam (one of my faves as a kid).
Maybe I should have gotten her the bestseller guide: "He's just not that into you". See, her "boyfriend" is still not talking to her, and she is not sure if they are still going out. And no matter how much I try to encourage her to talk to him because "boyfriends are supposed to be fun, not agonizing", she won't listen. I stood near the dude in question as he played a driving game and realised that he reeked of B.O. I would have told her that to make her feel better were she not 14.
The teen thing is so strange. One minute they are telling you "All these guys are so into me. I am really popular this year". The next they telling you they ate lunch in the bathroom, while asking you to switch seats with you so that the guy they like won't be able to see them eating.
The tutor program is over for this year. I will do it again, for sure, but sometimes it made me feel like my heart was going to burst.
