Pony: long weekend recipe
7.4.2005
This was a perfect urban long weekend with many cottagers cleared out for the three days, leaving the city relatively low on smog and cars.
Yvonne hosted an all-day barbecue event on Friday. Saturday, I met up with some lovely folks in Kensignton market and we headed over to the toronto island. They say it is safe to swim in the lake. Would you?
Saturday day became an evening barbecue with more good friends pouring in, pouring sangria, stuffing our faces.
Sunday I woke up with an urge to swim and went through 15 different swimsuit combinations before announcing I was ready to find a pool.
We biked down to Sunnyside pavillion where the wide array of humanity and their body parts were on display around the pool, baking in the sun like rows of weiners at the 7-11. They say it is safe to swim in public pools. The water was greasy from so much sunscreen.
We biked across the Humber bridge to the area where Kate and I went last week. The butterflies, the rocky promontories. We almost went for a drink at the 70's style casa mendosa with its patio of mullet-coiffed men eating peppercorn steak before the "million dollar view".
But I had a craving for pho (rarebeef noodle soup, to be specific) so we biked back to chinatown and tried out that new-ish vietnamese place up the stairs and next to the synagogue on St. Andrew. It was a nice, clean restaurant with cute booths, a hearty broth, and friendly owners. You should try it. Delish.
All this and the entire season three of Six Feet Under spread over each night. Anyone got season four? This is getting addictive.
And by the way: the crystal deodorant - not so effective.
